Too Stupid for Prison?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

We’ve all seen them, the action packed box office classics of the perfect crime. New and more elaborate ways to achieve greater levels of perfection. We are amazed by the ingenious ideas the criminal constructs to escape the grasps of the police.

Without these techniques none of us would know the simple basics to plotting the perfect ransom fuelled kidnapping or bank robbery that grabs a nation though the immense media coverage. So now that it is possible for each and every one of us to become the next notorious mastermind criminal, how is it possible that when the time comes for us to put our plan into action to outsmart the police, bank guards and multi million pound security systems can we forget the simple basics of how to conduct a bank robbery. Basics that were instilled into us even at the early age of six or seven, when we were plonked in front of the Sunday spaghetti western matinee.

The bank robber, first and foremost always concealed his identity, either by covering his face or changing his appearance altogether. The reasoning was simple: Don’t be recognised so you don’t get caught! But an American woman last week, who can not leave any doubt in our minds that she was raised on a completely different planet than the one the rest of the human race resides on, strolled into her local bank, proceeded to fill in a bank account application, complete with her correct name and address. Then after handing over her legitimate photographic ID, decided to pull a handgun on the teller and demanded money. Obviously she had not considered the other employees in the bank and the alarm was raised. Somehow with her ridiculously low intelligence she managed to figure out what they had done and fled the bank. She may of stood a slight chance of getting away with it but she forgot two crucial things; yes– her ID and her address on the application. As you may have already realised the police went knocking on her door and she was arrested for armed robbery. But what surprises me more than the fact that she left the trail for the police, as that could be put down to anxiety, stress or even desperation, is that she was genuinely surprised when she was found.

So the question is this; Is she just to stupid for prison? Would she ever benefit from rehabilitation or does she just need a nice soft room where she can’t hurt herself?

I have fixed the spelling on thread vein page. Really sorry I’ll be more careful in future.
