Angry Hush Hush

The village where I live is much like many other English villages. It has a church which annoys all the villagers when it plays its bells every morning, a shop which is called a ‘corner shop’ yet is nowhere near a corner and never was, and scandal – typical village, murder-she-wrote style scandal (plus one man who has three horses and is obsessed with equine liability insurance, as you would be when one of them hates the other two). I’m not talking about murders in this case, though, I am talking about women who have lots of children and pay for all of them using money given to them by the state. In this case, one particular woman and how disgusting it is that she has twelve children already, and is now pregnant with the thirteenth!

This presents an interesting dilemma. When will she stop? Will it ever end? Of course, we all know it has to stop somewhere, and that the end is somewhere within the next ten years, but that doesn’t stop the speculation and the angry hush-hush voices–

What to do about people who keep having children and are subsequently putting a strain on our country’s already strained resources? Who knows. Just don’t ask the opinion of people around here because the answer you might get – and I know this from standing in the queue at the alleged ’corner shop'– might worry you a little. It never ceases to amaze me how cruel people can be when it comes to the state of our country and what we need to do to fix it.
