The internet makes our lives better in so many ways. I don’t think I need to tell you, after all, you just had Laser skin resurfacing and ordered that thing from Amazon and that holiday you’re going on in three months time was all booked online. But there is one thing that the internet is not good for (aside from not meeting people in real life and not going to the supermarket to buy food from a real human being). And that’s writing, people. And I don’t mean real writing.
Ever since people have been allowed access to the web, bad writing has been about. On forums, on message boards, and in emails. Suddenly, almost over-night, people forgot how to write a letter, too. I have met people recently – and this is not a joke – who didn’t even know how to write a letter and where to put what. You could say this funny, but come on now, it’s tragic. What would the first letter-writers say? Those who wrote using a quill and ink and spent hours perfecting just how to do a pristine S?
If I had my way I’d make everyone do a course called How to write properly online and not offend people before they were allowed to even ring the communications people up and book them to come round and sort out internet.
It might seem like I am upset, and you’re right dear reader, I am! So next time you consider using dreadful writing, think twice about it. We’ve already lost the ancient art of hand-writing. Let’s not make this thing next.
